I spotted Linlithgow Palace on my first day in the UK. After landing in Edinburgh I boarded the train to Glasgow and spotted the palace in the window and couldn't wait to go inside and explore. Two months later I finally headed back to Linlithgow and got to see how awesome this place is. The first thing I noticed was how HUGE this place is. There are so many rooms to explore, basements, towers, halls and staircases. I haven't yet been to a ruined castle that was as immense as Linlithgow is. I'm pretty sure this would be the ultimate spot for hide and seek.
Quick History Time! The Palace was rebuilt in the 15th Century after the majority of the town was destroyed by fire. King James I started the rebuilding of the Palace, and it was subsequently the birthplace and residence of much of Scotland's royalty. Mary, Queen of Scots was born here, and when Bonnie Prince Charlie visited in the 1700s the fountain was made to flow with wine in his honour. I wish it had done the same in my honour!
