VIKINGS AT ROSKILDE

I took the train out to Roskilde to visit the Viking Ship Museum. Due to it being off season, the place was pretty much dead. I was the only visitor wondering around alone which I usually love, however the museum is meant to be an interactive experience, with sailings on vikings ships, making swords etc. Most of the ships were covered in tarp and only a few staff member were working on ships. I walked into the museum and decided not to pay to see the original ships. I wandered around the gift shop which gave a small view of the boats so I figured that was enough. Instead I spent the money on lunch at the museum’s cafe, and enjoyed some “modern nordic viking cuisine”. OMG it was amazing. The restaurant use only ingredients that were available during the Viking age and put a modern twist on it. The dish I had was called “the plank” which cost around $40AUD (holy shit). It included beer braised pork, cabbage, barley salad, black bread with cheese, salmon and other deliciousness. Worth every dollar.
